This week has seen the largest sports scandal our country, quite possibly the world, has ever known unfold. A well respected heir apparent to a legendary coach, a family man with adopted children, the founder of a charity to help underprivileged boys was using that same charity to feed his monstrous sexual deviancy.
The horrors that have been revealed over the past few days put into perspective how much sway athletics, and specifically big time Division I football, can have on what is a world renown institution of higher learning. Penn State is a massive University. As such, many of you reading this have family who attended PSU, friends, friends of friends, or at the very least, are aware that a man named Joe Paterno has been coaching there since dinosaurs played tailback in the wing T. I certainly have a close friend who is a proud Nittany Lion. A big sports fan, he attends several games in Happy Valley (what a terrible misnomer that has become) each year, and is one of the most worldly and intelligent people I have had the good fortune to call friend. So, I have some faith in the institution that stood knowingly and idly by as one of their revered football coaches, also a professor emeritus, repeatedly broke laws in the most heinous way imaginable. More torrid details are being reported almost hourly. If you haven't read the actual grand jury indictment, and aren't sufficiently outraged, follow this link.
From these ashes of shame and sorrow, from these burned down lives (surely more victims will come forward), from this despicable cover up via inaction, we as Renegades must foster an American revolution is sport. Where honor, integrity, and education are as valuable as BCS Bowl wins.
Will you stand with Hordon Health, or will you let your knees be bowed by the status quo.
We are Renegades.
This is our time.
This is our revolution!
